As part of the Nordic Water Network, the Smart Water Networks group at TU Berlin and Einstein Center Digital Future is offering the Online Summer School “Data Science and Artificial Intelligence for Urban Water Management” for the Summer semester 2021.
The duration of the Summer School is 6 days (+ project and exam). The programme will be split over two weeks and take place from 19th-21st and from 26th-28th of May 2021. The Summer School will be conducted in English. Different lecturers from the Smart Water Networks group at TU Berlin as well as international guest lecturers from TU Delft and NTNU Trondheim will present cutting-edge research on data science and artificial intelligence application for urban water management.
The main topics covered throughout the school include an Introduction to Data Science and Artificial Intelligence in Urban Water Systems and in-depth content on Modelling and control of Urban Water Systems, Leakage detection and other anomalies in Water Distribution Networks, as well as time series analysis, clustering techniques, and feature selection techniques.
Other topics that will be briefly touched in the course include Deep-Learning Applications in Urban Water Networks, Smart Metering and behavioural Modelling, as well as Water-Energy nexus and water and urban development.
Successful completion of the course, including a small project and an oral exam, will be awarded with 6 ECTS.
Programming knowledge and previous experience with one among Matlab/Python/R is required. Guided practical activities and tutorials will be performed using Python and Jupyter Notebooks. Understanding of concepts of mathematical modelling, statistics and data analysis, as well as basic knowledge of water systems is preferred but not compulsory.
The Summer School is going to take place fully digitally. Further instructions will be communicated to registered students on how to get access to the online lectures and exercise materials for the school.
More info on the course, including the exam, can be found here (Moses). The course schedule is going to be presented in a Zoom session on April 14th. The link for it will also be posted here.
