The year 2020 has been a challenge for the entire scientific community, and Nordic Water Network is no exception. Despite the COVID-19 pandemic which made international travel and research much more difficult, we have managed to sponsor 4 scholarship holders to research and write their theses in one of our partner universities. One of the students, however, did not manage to go to NTNU due to strong travel regulations from the Norwegian government. Thus, this year we have sent three scholarship holders to write their theses at one of our partner universities. Here is a short overview to where our students have been able to go with our scholarship:
One student from Technische Universität Berlin (TUB) enrolled in Water Engineering Master’s programme has gone to Dublin City University (DCU) to write his master’s thesis. He has gone to DCU for four months and is staying until December 2020.
Our second scholarship holder is a master’s student in Urban Planning at TUB. She has gone to Cracow University of Technology (CUT) and is staying there for 6 months until January 2021.
The third NWN-sponsored student is a master’s student in Physical Engineering Science at TUB. He has gone to Aalborg University (AAU) in Denmark for 5 months and is staying there until January 2021.
The three students who did manage to go abroad were initially planning to leave in spring already but had to postpone their departure and research. As a result, they could only begin their stay abroad at our partner universities in August/September. All in all, we are very happy that despite the difficult situation we could provide the scholarships and that 3 out of 4 our sponsored students have managed to go abroad and write their theses.
